Baking cookies, baking cookies, la, la, LA!

My soon-to-be sister-in-law has been a great cheerleader for me starting a cookie baking business, similar to one she has!

I've been working on different designs and have developed a lighter icing technique that is preferred by people that enjoy a less overly sweet option over a classically iced royal icing cookies.

Pumpkins for Fall / Autumn 🍁
Campfire; Potion bottle (can be many different types); and a sword
Repurposing into a Beholder or vorpal bunny (originally a bunny from an Easter set); skull or if flipped, a Bag of Holding; and a castle.

Gotta fit as many as you can... Waste not, want not!
First icing trial on these Dungeon & Dragons themed cookies...

I already had orange and green icing made up, because it was left over from a previous order, but the thickness is not great, so I will be mixing up a new batch tomorrow.

If / when I make these for customers, the colors will be custom-made for those cookies and not the orange and green. 😅

Life is Chaos...I need to accept that...

Okay so it has now been approximately a year and a half since my last post and SO MUCH has happened...

Let's start with one of the biggest ones, I got divorced.

I also found the love of my life and we now have a gorgeous baby boy (he's a month old as of this posting)!

We've moved several times, my ex moved to NC, and I've got my eldest 3 kids for the whole school year.

I like it there and although I liked the first store I worked at, I still ended up needing to transfer to a different store due to the commute.

Right now I'm still on Maternity leave, but in about 2 months I'll be returning to the aforementioned join, unless I can find remote work that will let me remain home with my adorable baby.

I've been working on a few craft projects on-and-off, but haven't completed anything, due to life and stuff.

Here's a baby quilt for co-worker at old job. I'm using big-stitch hand quilting.

Birthday is over & Halloween is on Hold!

Due to the fact that standard Halloween festivities will not be able to commence this year, I've put a hiatus on my costume and have instead focused on rapidly approaching birthdays and the 3 months left until Christmas.

I've got a fair amount of handmade gifts to make and a few items to source & purchase as well, but I'll get it all done in time. I'm currently off work due to mild medical issues, but it is proving beneficial to my getting things caught up creatively and around the house.

These are arm warmers I started back in early March, but I finally got back to them over the last few days and got the 2nd one almost completely knitted up in only a day! I still need to finish both, but they should work up quickly!

Also, I'm testing out a "toes up" sock knitting pattern for my husband in prep for some Secret Santa related sneakiness aimed at another family member. 🧐

The yarn color is labeled as Maple Leaves, but all I can see is Cordial Cherries (which is fine, cause my husband LOVES them)! So now he can eat them while he wears them...? 😅

A few weeks ago, for my birthday, my husband ordered me a sweater worth of Knit Picks yarn (14 skeins, in fact) & a packet of sets of sock knitting needles.

They arrived just before last weekend and I was able to get my sweater started just before remembering how close the aforementioned birthdays & holidays are.

Guess MY project is on hold again...but that's the way it goes...🤣

The sweater below is the one I'm knitting up from the free Harvest sweater pattern avaliable from Tin Can Knits!

This is not the first pattern I've used from this company & it certainly won't be the last!!

This is the yarn I'm using. The color just jumped out the screen & spoke to me. 😊

OH, also, package of 12 boxes of Scottish Shortbread!!

And last, but certainly not least, how I finished my birthday last night, a steaming cup of British tea & a box of Scotland-made Scottish Shortbread!!

More and more and more...HALLOWEEN!!

I've got a couple of blog posts I've been working on for a while that are waiting on me putting in links, but I didn't want to wait to have time for them before I posted again.

I've been keeping busy!

Between work, online gaming with friends (mostly Dungeon & Dragons [D&D], Pathfinder 2.0, & Werewolf), processing alpaca fiber, spinning alpaca yarn, and knitting for clients (whenever I can find spare time), I can barely catch my breath.

I keep trying to get back into creative streaming on Twitch, but it's hard to find the time when the kids are online in Zoom for 1/2 of the day or more...lol

When I do have computer access back and have the time finally, it's usually past 9pm PST, and I'm too damned exhausted.

Today I was chatting with a friend about perspective Halloween costumes and after discussing for a bit, he helped me decide on a patchwork plague doctor.

Inspiration photos:

Using the mask pattern from this blog (but with darker, moodier cookies, I mean colors...yes, no cookies to see here, of course):

And using these 2 patterns I already own, but with significant pattern alterations:

I'll try to keep the blog and my Instagram: craftiness1skey updated about it.

Belated update... lots going on...*Cat Tax*

I regret the delay, however, it was necessary.

I started a job about a week into May and have been focused on that mostly since. The work is pretty fast paced and they have been scheduling me a lot. Not complaining, I’m just grateful!

On June 6th, 2020, I was on my way home from my mom’s house (having just completed some outdoor chores for her) & I stopped to get fuel at one of her local gas stations. I had just started pumping gas into my car when I began hearing an extremely loud kitten meowing.

I looked all around, assuming someone had it in their car. However, while I was finishing up filling the tank, I realized all the other vehicles had left... while the meowing remained.

Having finished fueling, I put away the hose, closed up my tank and started actively searching. Relatively soon, I tracked down this poor fuzzy crusty feline.

I called a local veterinarian the next morning and they weren't able to get an appointment for us until a week & a half later.

While we waited, I gave him a bath (to rid him of fleas and general muck). His face cleaned up quite a bit.

With his face clear now, became very obvious that he had a serious issue with his right eye...either an infection, or even missing the eye.

Once the vet appointment day arrived, I took him there and waited in the car for them to finish his exam...
After you factored in the exam, an anti-inflammatory shot, an antibiotic shot, an oral antibiotic prescription, and an eye drop steroid prescription, the grand total for that poor stray kitty came out to $150!!
*"OUCH!"says my bank account!*

He has since finished his medications, and although he has retained some scarring in the eye that was worse off, it LUCKILY didn't have time to spread to his good eye prior to us finding him. He has even regained partial vision in the bad eye.

He is a spunky, loving little bugger and we think he's "the bee's knees"!

8 Facemasks, 4 orders!!

3 masks for my mom, 3 for my cousin that is a nurse, 1 for my stepmom, and 1 for my brother’s girlfriend!!

Sewing lining to mask after adding nose wire sleeve!

Using my serger to reinforce seams...

Check our that awesome leaf 🍃 matchup across the seam though!!

Starting sewing the straps

Just need to topstitch the straps, then those parts are done...

When you’re crafty and your teabag doesn’t have a proper string, you make do & mend!!

Bending nose wires into submission!

The finished 8, FINALLY!

Please feel free to comment, if you wish!

Outlander and Mask Completion!

2 masks completed for one of my husband’s coworkers. Complete with removable nose wire, so it’s machine washable!!

Running Outlander in the background, cause it’s a phenomenal show!

I’m glad I was able to finish these a few hours ago!! He’ll be taking them to work tomorrow & collecting payment for me!

About dang time...also, new glasses!!

I just realized that it has been a few days since my last post...

As I mentioned earlier, I had decent reason to skip the 20th, but once you skip something once for any reason, it makes it that much harder to start back up. I'm hoping to get better about that.

I got my first paid order for face masks day before yesterday, so that's cool! I a bunch of linings and outer shells cut last week (as you saw in a previous post) & I started sewing them 2 days ago. They are due on Tuesday, so I've got plenty of time to get them finished.

Last week, I came across a recipe for Crockpot Peach Cobbler. I finally found time to make it last night and it was FANTASTIC!!

Just peaches so far...we didn’t have any fresh or frozen, so canned it must be!

Set up with all the ingredients, just before turning the crockpot on!

We ate it so fast, I forgot to get a finished pic before it was mostly gone!!

Now, my glasses!!
